Start Here: Setting Up Your Learnvia Course

Modified on Wed, 8 Jul at 9:59 AM

A quick checklist for getting your course ready. Each step links to a full guide if you want the details. Most instructors can get through it in under an hour.

  1. Pick your configuration. Decide whether each chapter is one week, which is what we recommend and what most instructors adopt, or follows a traditional textbook layout. (See Implementation approaches and Configure.)
  2. Adjust your content. Reorder, group, or hide modules so they match your syllabus. (See Content and Configure.)
  3. Set your schedule. Use Plan to set due dates for lessons, homework, and quizzes. You can extend a due date for one student or the whole class at any time. (See Plan and Extending deadlines.)
  4. Add your students. Set up your roster so students can enroll. (See Roster.)
  5. Connect your LMS gradebook. Link Learnvia so scores flow into your LMS gradebook. The one-time LTI connection is handled by your campus IT admin (your campus IT admin sets this up once; see the Setting up your LMS integration guides). (See Transferring Grades from Learnvia, and for Canvas, Canvas Integration and Using assignment groups to weight grades.)
  6. Decide what the work is worth. A common pattern is 10 points for lessons, 10 for homework, and 5 for quizzes, so Learnvia is 15 to 30 points out of 100. Points help make sure students do the work, especially the ones who need it most. (See Implementation approaches.)

Once these are done, your course is ready for students.
