Troubleshooting the Learnvia LTI Integration

Modified on Wed, 8 Jul at 9:59 AM

If the Learnvia tool is not showing up, launches are failing, or grades are not passing back, work through the section that matches your symptom. Most issues come down to the LTI 1.3 registration values or the services enabled on the deployment.

The Learnvia tool does not appear in your LMS

  • Confirm the LTI 1.3 tool is registered and deployed by following the setup guide for your LMS: Canvas, Blackboard Ultra, or D2L/Brightspace.
  • Check that the registration values match exactly. The OpenID Connect login URL, the Redirect (Target Link) URI, and the JWKS URL should all point to courseware.learnvia.org. An old domain left in one of these fields is a common cause.
  • Make sure the tool is enabled for the sub-account, org unit, or course where the instructor is looking, not only at the top level.

Students get an error when launching Learnvia

  • Learnvia creates a student account on the student's first launch from your LMS, not at enrollment. Have the student click the Learnvia link in their course once to create the account.
  • Confirm the deployment has Names and Role Provisioning Services (NRPS) enabled, so roster information passes through.
  • Students should use the same institutional email in your LMS that they use with Learnvia. A mismatch can block access.

Grades are not passing back to your gradebook

  • The tool registration and deployment must have Assignment and Grade Services (AGS) enabled. If AGS was not checked during setup, scores cannot post back. Re-check the deployment settings against the setup guide for your LMS.
  • Confirm the instructor has connected the Learnvia assignments to the gradebook on their side (see Transferring Grades from Learnvia).
  • Grade sync runs on a schedule, so allow some time after a student finishes work before the score appears.

When to contact Learnvia support

If you have worked through the steps above and are still stuck, contact support and include:

  • Your institution name and which LMS and version you use.
  • The client ID and deployment ID from your LTI 1.3 registration.
  • The course where the problem happens, and which instructor or student is affected.
  • A screenshot of any error message.

That information lets us match your setup on our end and respond quickly.
